Many fans thought that this was a major reason why Disney shelved this project right away. The show is a parody of everything and anything in the Star Wars universe that’s set between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. He is given credit as the creator, while Robot Chicken’s Brendan Hay served as showrunner. Star Wars: Detours was supposed to be George Lucas’ last project for the famous franchise. In all, there are potentially 52 episodes that could make it on Disney Plus. The report suggest that the original 39 episodes, along with several additional un-produced episodes will be released.
They speculates that the series could hit the streamer as soon as May 4th a.k.a Star Wars Day.

It was thought that Star Wars: Detours was lost forever.Īccording to The Vulcan Reporter, they have learned that Disney plans to release the Star Wars: Detours on its Disney Plus streaming service. The show was teased at Star Wars Celebration V and supposedly dozens of episodes were completed. The show was canceled by Disney along with multiple other projects to make way for the sequel trilogy. That project was the animated series titled Star Wars: Detours. Prior to Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012, George Lucas was crafting one final original project set within the Star Wars Universe. A comedic animated series that was in all aspects opposite of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Episodes were roughly six minutes in length, and 62 more. Although in that interview it certainly sounds like Green was hopeful that Star Wars Detours would see distribution after the new trilogy had concluded – especially since 39 episodes had been finished and they had scripts for 62 more.When Disney purchased the rights to Star Wars a lot of projects in development were shelved including Star Wars: Detours. Star Wars Detours was announced back in 2012 at Star Wars Celebration VI, and would have been another partnership between Lucasfilm Animation and Robot Chickens Matt Senreich and Green, following the studios three Star Wars specials, each of which lovingly lampooning the franchise. In an interview with Seth Green through a Reddit Q & A from 2013, he pointed out that since a new trilogy was underway, it might not be in Disney’s best interest for new fans of the franchise to have their first introduction to the Star Wars universe be a comedy series that was set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The then upcoming series was announced back in 2012 at the Star Wars Celebration VI event – but was put on the back burner by Lucasfilm the following year – as the talks for the new Star Wars trilogy had begun.
A most assuredly comedic look at the Star Wars universe – which I suppose is to be expected considering the showrunners. This is amazing and bizarre at the same time – for one thing Star Wars Detours is a CGI-animated series that was headed up by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich of Robot Chicken fame. Friends, earlier this evening I was sent a link to this uploaded video on YouTube – it appears to be a leaked episode of the Star Wars Detours animated series entitled Dog Day Afternoon.
